TradeHarbor® Participates in the Washington University in St Louis, Annual Review of the Center for Security Technologies (CST)

ST. LOUIS, January 26, 2004 –

Paul S. Heirendt (President & CEO) and George Velius (Executive Vice President & CTO) were invited participants in the Annual Review of the Center for Security Technologies (CST) at Washington University in St Louis, January 26, 2004.

The CST Research Review is an important mechanism for broadly disseminating research results, with a focus on the potential industrial applications and social implications of the work. The CST considers outside interaction vital to the Center's progress and success.  The Review is an interactive event and is an opportunity to meet directly with the 50 faculty members who comprise the research team as well as other members of the Center. The review includes a broad overview of the research activities, a description of current plans and opportunities for technology transfer and licensing, demonstrations of interdisciplinary research testbeds, and lab tours and displays of new technologies.

Security Technology

Robert Pless, Ph.D. (seated), assistant professor of computer science and engineering, conducts a real-time demo of his video surveillance system at the Annual Review of the Center for Security Technologies (CST) Jan. 26 in Lopata Hall. Pless is assistant CST director. The video camera is developing models of what typical motion is in a scene so that it can detect abnormal events or actions. The CST, founded two years ago, has 50 interdisciplinary University faculty working on a wide range of security technologies. In just the first five months of 2003, CST licensed two technologies, filed several patents and launched a startup company. Viewing the demonstration are (from left): Jody O'Sullivan, Ph.D., professor of electrical and systems engineering and associate CST director; Richard C.D. "Dick" Fleming, president and chief executive of the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association; Dan O'Sullivan, president of Brick Network in St. Louis and a 1988 alumnus; and Paul Heirendt of TradeHarbor Inc. of St. Louis.

About CST:

Washington University in St Louis Center for Security Technologies (CST), founded two years ago, has 50 interdisciplinary University faculty working on a wide range of security technologies. In just the first five months of 2003, CST licensed two technologies, filed several patents and launched a startup company.

The mission of the CST is to advance research in basic science, mathematics, and engineering in those areas which can most directly improve security - which we define broadly to include physical aspects of security (intrusion detection, biological and chemical substance identification) and information aspects of security (networking, searching of massive databases, and information theory), and to transfer effective technology to industry and government to put the technology to use.
